The Department of Transportation is considering a bill that would mandate that all semi-trucks have autonomous-braking systems on board.
I don’t know what to make of this. On one hand, I believe it would probably lead to safer roads (though I’ve read articles elsewhere about anti-lock braking systems in passenger cars not improving highway safety because since we drivers know we have that feature we drive less safely and “eat” into any safety margin the device adds). On the other hand, I cannot help but wonder if these self-braking systems will actually improve things or just raise the cost of doing business…
